Cannot create a new contact group button is gray disabled in Outlook 2013 using my outlook com account and Exchange ActiveSync EAS

I recently switched from Outlook 2010 to Outlook 2013 and also started to used the online version of Outlook.com. I moved my contacts to the new account.
But when i tried to create a new contact group, i couldnt, because the button was grayed out.
I did some search in the web on this issue an seems like theres no real "solution" to get this working because the Exchange ActiveSync protocol that is used between Outlook 2013 and Outlook.com does not support contact groups according to: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-outlook/contact-group-gray/da54e419-9c18-4d3b-9045-052ca1c90760

But at least I found out, that its still possible to create contact groups in Outlook.com online and that the group name becomes a category of this contact in Outlook 2013. Displaying the contacts grouped by category and sending an email to such a group has a similar effect as using a contact group, although I would be much happier if the EAS would support contact groups by nature.

Heres a description how the group/category-thing works:

Unfortunately it does not work the other way round. Assigning a category in to a contact in Outlook 2013 does not sync back to Outlook.com nor creating a group for These contacts :-(
