C SQLCLR SqlMetaData with SqlDbType Float column getting InvalidCastException on SqlDataRecord SetFloat

In my SQLCLR C# Stored Procedure on SQL Server 2008 R2 i returned the results using a SqlDataRecord that has a column of SqlDbType.Float.

Trying to set the value using the SetFloat Method, i got an InvalidCastException.

How-i-fixed-it:
I found out that SqlDbType.Float is equal to a System.Double data type. Using the SetDouble Method it works fine.

Here i found the right hints:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/de-de/library/vstudio/system.data.sqldbtype(v=vs.80).aspx

http://msdn.microsoft.com/de-de/library/vstudio/microsoft.sqlserver.server.sqldatarecord.setfloat.aspx

Firefox does not start but HDD usage goes up to 100 on Windows 8 1 and blocks freezes the computer

Today my firefox 33 did not start any more. In task manager the process was shown, but with memory = 0 and CPU = 0. But the HDD usage of my computer went up to 100% and it was fully blocked for everything else. Waiting for a couple of minutI es did not change anything, also rebooting did not help

How-I-fixed-it:
Since Internet Explorer since worked on the computer, i went to https://www.mozilla.org/de/firefox/new/ and installed the latest version of the firefox browser. After this, firefox worked fine again.

Azure Active Directory Single SIgn On with Box com

After TechEd 2014 North America I decided to test out Azure Active Directory Single Sign-On with Box.com.  I already had ADFS setup for Office 365, so it seemed a no brainer to try it out.

When I went to Azure.com I had to setup a new account (That came with a trial $200 credit for the first 30 days).
Even though I already had office365 and Azure AD setup and running, I still had to create a new Azure account before I could see it.  Azure AD just showed up after my first login, I didnt have to do anything special.  I found it funny that when I asked about this at TechEd, the people from the Office365 booth and the guys in the Azure booth didnt know for sure if it would just show up or not.

On to setting up Applications with Azure AD with box.com

They offer two types of Single Sign-On with Box.com.
1. Windows Azure AD Single Sign-On
2. Password Single Sign-On

Password Single Sign-On works fine, but if you want more advanced functions, like creating box.com users with Azure, then you want the Windows Azure AD Single Sign-on option.

It will give you a file called FederationMetadata.xml
When I contacted Box.com about importing this, this was the reply I got:

HI Ed -

Thanks for clarifying. So for set ups like this we recommend our program called Quick start. Here is a link to the description https://cloud.box.com/s/7kucoccfw8hybfrzxfs2

This will help you through this process. It is $1000 but a one time fee. Let me know if you would like this service and I can send you a quote to sign and we can get it started right away.

Thanks!
Melanie

Does anyone know if you really have to pay $1000 to get this setup or are they just pushing their consulting services?
The form Box linked to was for their consulting services that you might want to buy if you have not setup box yet.  I already have, so this seemed a little pointless to me when all I need was for them to upload the stupid xml file into their system.

Installing Sound Drivers for Windows 8 1 on a HP Pavilion P7 1258

I just upgraded my HP Pavilion P7-1258 Desktop PC to Windows 8.1 and after that I didnt have any sound.
When I tried to install the IDT High Definition Audio Drivers for Windows 8 from the HP website , I got an error about having the wrong operating system because its checking for Window 8.0 and not 8.1.

The trick to getting around this is to let SP59424.exe expand into the Temp folder (and then leave the installer running so that the temp files dont get deleted) and then run the actual install from there.

So go to %temp% and look for the newest folder in there.
Then inside that folder you will find a src folder and inside that should be a setup file, run this and you will be golden.

Here is information about the driver Im using:

Download from HP: SP59424.exe

Title: IDT High Definition Audio Driver

Version: 6.10.6418.0

Category: Driver - Audio

Operating System:
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

ISS and OWA Damaged on Exchange 2007 Server

I had a really nasty crash on my Exchange 2007 server the other day.
Here is the Technet "Disaster Recovery Procedures" to help you fix a crash:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998890(EXCHG.80).aspx

I was able to use the recovery tools to fix the databases, but OWA and IIS were toast.
You can recover your database with Eseutil /R (Recovery Mode).
See help here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123479(EXCHG.80).aspx

One of my first issues was to repair WMI. That worked fine, but then IIS was still damaged.
Here is a batch script that i found that fixes that:

net stop winmgmt
c:
cd %windir%system32wbem
rd /S /Q
repository
regsvr32 /s %systemroot%system32scecli.dll
regsvr32 /s
%systemroot%system32userenv.dll
mofcomp cimwin32.mof
mofcomp
cimwin32.mfl
mofcomp rsop.mof
mofcomp rsop.mfl
for /f %%s in (’dir /b
/s *.dll’) do regsvr32 /s %%s
for /f %%s in (’dir /b *.mof’) do mofcomp
%%s
for /f %%s in (’dir /b *.mfl’) do mofcomp %%s
mofcomp
-n:rootcimv2applicationsexchange wbemcons.mof
mofcomp
-n:rootcimv2applicationsexchange smtpcons.mof
mofcomp
exmgmt.mof
mofcomp exwmi.mof
net start winmgmt

Then I had to fix the transport database. See help here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb217853(EXCHG.80).aspx

The next step was to remove and re-install IIS and then reinstall the CAS role and use the Exchange shell to re-install OWA and ActiveSync.
Technet help on that here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320202

None of this worked, and my OWA and ActiveSync are still down.

Im using the Test-OwaConnectivity cmdlet to test the OWA that I have now:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997682(EXCHG.80).aspx
It tells me this:
The test was unable to establish a connection to Outlook Web Access.
Not very helpful.

OAB (Address book) seems to work, so I dont think its IIS.

I did find two technet MVPs that say that if you screw up IIS on Exchange 2007 that you may as well just format the box and start over. Great....

Ill post more as I go along.
